What’s the problem you’re trying to solve?

Speaking a rare language is now a barrier to technology adoption. Speech is the interface of the future. For rare dialects, including Swiss German ones, current systems are not working properly, because of two factors: The lack of data and the access to technology.

Access to people who can understand and build similar systems for this problem are needed.

What are your goals and milestones?

The artificial intelligent (A.I.) Roundtable bets to put a service in action until April 2018 using artificial intelligence that is able to hear, understand and speak one of the rarest dialects of Switzerland.

What’s your approach?

Create an A.I. system that can recognize the rare dialect, understand it well enough to transcribe it and then speak it.

What’s the impact your aiming for?

The method will be applied to other rare dialects around the world. More than half of the world‘s population stands to benefit from it. It‘s the perfect moment to democratize speech interfaces using the new neural models.
